Fertilizers for garlic

Successful garlic cultivation is ensured by the use of complex granulated organic fertilizer for garlic GREENODIN GRAY, as garlic positively responds to increased organic matter content in the soil and improved nutrient supply.

Organic fertilizers for garlic

Traditionally, in the autumn, on light soils poor in nutrients, organic fertilizers are applied in the form of 40 t/ha of manure directly under the crop. The application rates for traditional organic fertilizers (cattle manure, horse manure) range from 40 to 60, and for chicken manure - 15 to 20 tons per hectare. The use of pig manure for garlic fertilization involves only applying it as a precursor. Such outdated organic fertilizers, when applied, require mandatory incorporation into the soil, that is, they are incorporated during the main soil tillage.

As an effective alternative to traditional organic and conventional mineral fertilizers in garlic cultivation techniques, silicon-containing organo-mineral fertilizers of the "GREENODIN" brand (rehabilitate) are recommended. Particularly, GREENODIN GRAY, which is applied at a rate of 25 grams per square meter or 250 kg/ha in the early spring period. The main components of these fertilizers, apart from soluble silicon, include a source of organic matter (mineralized leonardite) and other beneficial components.

According to research conducted at the Mykolaiv State Agricultural Research Station of the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine during 2019-2020, the application of GREENODIN GRAY resulted in increased plant height by 3-12 cm, leaf quantity by 0.2-1.7 units, and bulb weight by 2.6-10.6 g compared to other fertilizer options.

The application of GREENODIN GRAY at a dose of 250 kg/ha on winter garlic sown in the third decade of October resulted in a yield of 15.3-15.9 t/ha. The profitability level (as of 2020) reached 139-140%, with a net income of 178.0-185.5 thousand UAH/ha and a production cost of 8.3-8.4 thousand UAH/t.

In conclusion, the proven application of the organic fertilizer GREENODIN GRAY for garlic cultivation not only increases garlic yield (up to 65%) but also improves soil fertility and enhances its agronomic and microbiological characteristics.

It should be noted that the application rate of organic and mineral fertilizers is determined not only by the biological characteristics of the specific garlic variety but also depends on the conditions of the specific farm, its soil and climatic conditions, growth form (winter or spring), nutrient uptake coefficients, and target yield levels.

Complex fertilization for garlic

The use of complex fertilizers, which combine macro and micronutrients, in garlic cultivation technologies allows optimizing nutrition at all stages of development and contributes to improved adaptive properties of plants and their resistance to diseases.

Currently, there is a wide range of complex fertilizers available on the market, among which highly effective silicon-containing organo-mineral fertilizers like GREENODIN GRAY can be highlighted. These fertilizers contain an organic base (leonardite), modified natural silicon-containing minerals, macro and micronutrients, and beneficial microflora, which is crucial for enhancing the efficiency of nutrient uptake. An advantage of these fertilizers is that they can be applied directly to garlic without any restrictions. The acidity of these fertilizers is neutral, with a pH of 7.0, and the organic matter (C) content ranges from 50-55%. The application rate of these fertilizers depends on the agrochemical characteristics of the soil and typically ranges from 250 kg/ha (or 25 g/m2).

Fertilization of garlic

For fertilization that contains macroelements, including nitrogen, and micronutrients for garlic fertilization, it is recommended to use the same GREENODIN GRAY fertilizers, which will lead to high garlic yields without the need for foliar application of nitrogen fertilizers and micronutrients.

Timing of garlic fertilization

In the process of garlic cultivation, three fertilizations are usually carried out, which significantly influence plant growth, development, and the formation of high yields. The first fertilization is typically conducted at the stage of 3-4 garlic leaves, the second at the stage of 6-9 leaves, and the third, if necessary, after the formation of 10-12 leaves.

Spring fertilization of garlic

The first fertilization of spring garlic (at the 3-4 leaf stage) is done using GREENODIN GRAY fertilizers, which contain nitrogen-fixing, potassium, and phosphorus-mobilizing bacteria. At the 3-4 leaf stage, garlic transitions to soil nutrition, as it utilizes nutrient reserves from the planting material until that period.

Fertilization of winter garlic

The first fertilization of winter garlic can be done one week after the snow cover melts. The timing of the second and third fertilizations is similar to that of spring garlic. The use of organic fertilizers like GREENODIN GRAY is effective at all stages, with an application rate of 25 grams per square meter or 250 kilograms per hectare, followed by watering.

Second garlic fertilization. The next fertilization is recommended at the stage of 6-9 leaves, as this is when intensive vegetative growth occurs. According to the calendar, the second fertilization can be done 15-20 days after the first one, or a single application can be sufficient when using GREENODIN GRAY.

June fertilization of garlic

If needed, the third fertilization is carried out in June (after the 15th), during the bulb formation period, using organic fertilizers like GREENODIN GRAY at a rate of 25 grams per square meter or 250 kilograms per hectare, followed by thorough watering.

Fertilizing garlic for winter planting

Before planting garlic for winter, it is recommended to use complex organic fertilizers like GREENODIN GRAY to prevent the introduction of pathogens into the soil. The application rate is 250 kilograms per hectare, replacing the use of 50 tons per hectare of manure in combination with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, which can promote the development of fungal diseases.

Fertilizing winter garlic

The use of fertilizers not only ensures high yields but also increases winter hardiness. The application of phosphorus and potassium provides plant winter hardiness, while nitrogen promotes vigorous vegetative growth and reduces susceptibility to winter stress conditions. The application of organic-mineral fertilizer like GREENODIN GRAY, containing a complex of nutrients, allows for optimized nutrition of garlic plants, enhancing their winter hardiness, vitality, and disease resistance.
